Day 54 Pelling

Morning as usual came at 10. Light breakfast of sandwiches and a cup of tea and I was off. The winding roads were fresh like morning dew. The cold was just right. I was given directions by Mr. Basak (the hotel owner) plus some really useful information and contacts for my journey ahead. This man was really great. Place is highly recommended. Nice and not costly. You can get a special rate if he likes you 😉 He generally likes all adventurers. Its called Dafhla Gang. It means some peak or something but I can’t remember now.

Anyway, so I follow the route suggested. Lovely roads. View of the bridge I had to cross.

The roads after that were little used inner roads which was nice because there was no traffic. And I mean no traffic. I met one car in the two hour journey. The inclines were great and challenging. But the thing that I liked about the road was the milestones. These guys really liked to get their distances right. I have never seen anything like this before.

I didn’t stop at Namchi. I was there by lunch time and it was just another town. I would stop somewhere by the road at a small eating place. I head straight to the large statue of one great god (with a name too long to remember). The statue is majestic. HUUUUUUUGE. Towering over everything. And looking down at the entire valley as if to ward off all evil. Kind of like the giant Buddha on the Lantau Island in Hong Kong. Much the same awesome-ness. Take a look.

The road back from Namchi to Gangtok came through tea country. The memories of Darjeeling and Kurseong were back again. So was the thought of the lost photos. Shit man.
