Shifting Base: Mumbai To 50km Ahead Of Udaipur

No, that was not the destination planned for this journey. It was supposed to end about 650 kms ahead, in New Delhi. I was shifting base and I was loaded to the hilt. And I came to a griding halt on one fine morning in the middle of the desert. Life just likes to have some fun.

The night before, I got my oil changed (and my oil fiter, now I know). And rode on through to Udaipur on the first day. Distance: About 850 kms. Time: 15 hours. Had the compnay of Mr. Sethi till Vapi. Then pulled on alone. The night at Udaipur was like any other night. Then morning came.

Day 31 Bikaner to Jaisalmer

Since one of the objectives was to reach Jaisalmer (have heard too much about it), the idea of getting to Jaisalmer is at the peak of my mind. As I wake up in Bikaner and have my morning cup of tea, I know that objective is going to be fulfilled today. Jaisalmer is about 330 kilometers away. And all that is spread over those 330 kilometers is even more of the mind-numbing boring straight sand banked stretch of black tarmac that I had begun to hate yesterday. But then, this is the deal I chose for myself.

Day 30 Sriganganagar to Bikaner

Gyaniji turned out to be somewhat funny too. I visited him in the morning to get my chain to optimum tension for the journey ahead. He presented a photographer to me. Apparently he takes the photograph of every single one of his customers for his records. So I pose on the bike and get my imprint taken for eternity to be fixed on Gyaniji’s wall (or his scrapbook) and head out.

Day 4 Ajmer to Delhi

After a nice night service by the people at the small, dingy hotel manned by very nice people, I left at around 10 am. There was a Maulvi saab to take me to the Dargah of Khwaja Salim Chisti (I hope I got the name right) but I said I will do it when I come back. Partly because I wanted to leave fast and partly because I wanted to leave it as a reason to come back to the town. I think I will love the town.
